AB, De Kock lead the way for the Proteas

AB, De Kock lead the way for the Proteas

Cape Town – The Proteas have posted a respectable 195 for 4 batting first in the first T20 International against Bangladesh in Bloemfontein.

LIVE: SA v Bangladesh, 1st T20

After winning the toss, stand-in Proteas captain, JP Duminy, had no hesitation in opting to make first use of the wicket.

The home side quickly lost Hashim Amla, bowled by Mehidy Hasan for 4 in the second over.

That brought AB de Villiers to the crease and between himself and Quinton de Kock, the pair added a quick-fire 79 runs for the second wicket in just 8 overs.

De Villiers was in a belligerent mood, smashing eight boundaries in his 49.

He only faced 27 balls but became Hasan’s second victim, caught by Mahmudullah when looking to clear the boundary for his fifty.

Duminy contributed 13 and when De Kock fell for 59 off 44 balls, the Proteas were in danger of losing momentum at 133/4 after 15 overs.

But Farhaan Behardien (36* off 17 balls) and David Miller (25* off 19) ensured the home side almost reached the magical 200 mark, ending just six runs short and leaving Bangladesh needing a fine batting effort to stand any chance of winning the game.
