Cape Town – Proteas Women captain Dane van Niekerk has held her hands up after a disappointing double-header of T20 cricket against New Zealand and England on Wednesday.
In a unique situation where the Proteas played two T20Is on the same day, Van Niekerk and her charges fell to two heavy, record-breaking defeats.
First, against New Zealand, the Proteas conceded the highest score in the history of Women’s T20I cricket when the Kiwis finished on 216/1 to claim a 66-run win.
Then, just hours later, the Proteas broke that unwanted record once more when they conceded 250/3 against England to lose by 121 runs.
“Today we got a proper hiding from both teams, they batted really well and I can’t fault how any of them played,” said Van Niekerk on the ICC website.
“Our bowling is an area of concern.
“We are bowling too many different lines and lengths, we are all over the place. We have to go back to the drawing board and hopefully we can turn it around in the next few games.”
