The former Buccaneer was amongst 14 other signings who were unveiled on Wednesday
Chippa United have unveiled Daine Klate amongst several other new signings ahead of the upcoming 2018/19 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season.
It was previously reported that the veteran was looking to return to the Eastern Cape after he was released by Bidvest Wits at the end of last season.
Nonetheless, it has now been officially revealed that Klate will return to his home town on a three-year-deal. The 33-year-old was subsequently unveiled at a press conference along with 14 others.
Some of Chippa’s other new signings that were unveiled were former Sundowns duo Thabo Nthethe, Jabulani Shongwe, Botswana internationals Thatayaone Kgamanyane and Kabelo Seakanyeng, and Ruzaigh Gamildien.
Speaking at the conference, Chippa coach Dan Malesela has opened up about his thinking behind the wholesale changes, although the coach was mum on his side’s objectives for the new season.
“I’m not going to make any promises about the upcoming season, but we are going to try our best. We’d like to compete on the continent, and win silverware,” Malesela was quoted as saying by Daily Sun.
“We were very careful with our selection this season. We didn’t only take the talent factor into consideration, we also looked at behaviour, age, and a real want from the player to be at the Club,” he added.
Meanwhile, in the day’s other transfer news, SuperSport officially announced three new signings. The Tshwane-based outfit took to their Twitter account to unveil James Keene, goalkeeper Washington Arubi and youngster Luke Fleurs as the club’s newest recruits.
Keene was previously on the books of Bidvest Wits, where he made 18 league appearances last season, scoring just three goals, while Fleurs on the other hand, joins Matsatsantsa from National First Division outfit Ubuntu Cape Town.
Furthermore, the club recently confirmed that goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse would be leaving the club, and they have subsequently wasted no time in finding a suitable replacement.
Along with the two outfield players, SuperSport also confirmed that experienced shot-stopper Arubi would also be joining the reigning MTN8 Cup champions.
