Chiefs have four new players in their squad ahead of the 2018/19 PSL season, but do they need a few more before the transfer window slams shut?
Kaizer Chiefs have already made four signings ahead of the new season, and even without a permanent head coach, they were still smart in the transfer market.
Khama Billiat, Andriamirado Hasina ‘Dax’ Andrianarimanana, Letlhogonolo Mirwa and Virgil Vries all joined the Naturena-based outfit to replace those who left the club at the end of the last campaign.
In Billiat and Dax, Chiefs certainly don’t need any more signings, because over the past three seasons, their biggest problem has been scoring goals.
The duo has an eye for goal, and if used properly and complemented by good players, Chiefs fans will be rejoicing next season.
At this stage, Chiefs just need a coach to shape up the team and work on different combinations with the players that are already there and not bring in more signings as this may demoralise the squad.
Their defence is solid – both the goalkeeping department and the back four – while their midfield look stronger with the likes of Siphelele Ntshangase, Wiseman Meyiwa, Willard Katsande among others.
On paper, Chiefs are one of the strongest sides in the league upfront, with at least four quality attackers in Dax, Billiat, Leonardo Castro and Gustavo Paez in the team.
The only thing Chiefs can look to do is to promote a few youngsters to the first team and give those who were promoted last season the chance to shine in less important matches for experimental purposes.

However, that can only be done once there’s a coach at the helm; someone who will be able to make the right decisions for the team and its future.
But looking at their squad, there’s quality already and there’s cover in every position which only makes competition for places healthy and perhaps a bit of selection headache for whoever will be in charge of the team in the upcoming campaign.
