Al Ahly have played all their Caf Champions League Group D matches heavily depleted but have managed to avoid defeat
Group D leaders Al Ahly have been hit by fresh injury woes and will be missing injured defender Saad Samir and forward Ahmed Hamoudi when they face Simba SC in Dar-es-Salaam on Tuesday.
The injury crisis is persisting in the Al Ahly camp after they missed nine injured key players but managed to beat Simba 5-0 in the reverse fixture at home.
However, Yasser Ibrahim has returned from injury after missing the last three games and could replace Samir, who was injured in last Friday league win over Haras El Hodood, while Rami Rabia is another option at center back.
Captain Hossam Ashour, chief forward Walid Azaro, striker Marwan Mohsen as well as veterans Ahmed Fathi and Walid Soliman are still out injured, having also missed previous Champions League games.
“We suffer from the games’ sequence, which has caused the absence of more key players,” Al Ahram quoted Al Ahly’s Uruguayan coach Martin Lasarte as having said during Monday’s press conference.
“Some players will miss the game due to injuries, but we still have players in the same position who achieve our tactics.”
Al Ahly will be in Dar-es-Salaam where they face a wounded Simba side that also lost 5-0 away at AS Vita in their second group match before suffering the Al Ahly defeat by the same scoreline.

Simba’s Belgian coach Patrick Aussems is confident his side will recover from the last two games in which they conceded 10 goals. “We knew from the first day that the two away games will be very tough. I didn’t expect too much from it but now we are back home and are looking for the crucial three points,” Aussems told Cafonline.
“Almost all my players are available for the game. We will play tough and very competitive. We need to use our opportunities and score goals, which is the only way to win.”
The Tanzanians could be dangerous at home after they beat Algerian side JS Saoura 3-0 at Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in their group opener.
