Mohamed Salah returns to Liverpool training ahead of Brentford clash

Mohamed Salah was spotted back in Liverpool training on Tuesday as the Egyptian forward nears a return from a hamstring injury.

Salah suffered the injury early on in the Africa Cup of Nations and was embroiled in controversy when he returned to Liverpool for treatment – Salah had to publicly reject claims he had abandoned his nation.

The plan was for Salah to return to AFCON later in the competition but Egypt’s surprise elimination meant the 31-year-old could focus solely on getting back to full fitness.

Having missed his side’s last four Premier League games, Salah was back in training on Tuesday to join the preparations for this Saturday’s trip to Brentford.

Also spotted in training were goalkeeper Alisson and defender Joe Gomez, who missed the 3-1 win over Burnley through illness, and young right-back Conor Bradley, who was granted time away from the team for personal reasons.

Thiago Alcantara is back on the sidelines with a fresh muscular injury which he picked up in his five-minute cameo at the end of the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal – his first appearance since April 2023 – while fellow midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai remains out.

Liverpool are sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League table and, as the early kick-off on Saturday, have the chance to ramp up the pressure on Manchester City and Arsenal with victory over Brentford.

The Reds are two points clear of both contenders but City do have a game in hand. Pep Guardiola’s side face Chelsea later on Saturday.
