2023 African Games: Black Princesses looking to consolidate our dominance against Nigeria in the final – Yusif Basigi

Yusif Basigi, the head coach of Ghana’s U20 women’s national team, the Black Princesses, says his team will look to consolidate their dominance over Nigeria when they face off in the final of the 2023 African Games final on Thursday night.

After a 3-1 victory over Senegal in the semifinals, Ghana is set to challenge their arch rivals for the title.

Having previously triumphed over Nigeria’s U20 team in a penalty shootout to claim the WAFU U20 Women’s Cup, Basigi anticipates a challenging encounter with their West African counterparts.

Basigi acknowledged the competitive spirit between the two teams.

“Playing Nigeria I know off the pitch we are best friends but on the pitch it is a different game ball altogether.

“We watched them play and they also watched us play. Nigeria would like to avenge the defeat and we also like to consolidate our dominance so it is going to be a cracker. It’s going to be a tough game. At the end of the day we see what happens.”

The final is on Thursday night at the Cape Coast Stadium.
