Former Hearts of Oak MD Frederick Moore calls for review of player recruitment and coaching hires

Former Accra Hearts of Oak Managing Director, Frederick Moore, has urged the club to reassess its player recruitment strategy and the process of hiring coaches.

This comes in the wake of the Accra-based club’s lackluster performance in the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League, where they have managed only one win in their last five games.

Moore’s comments were triggered by Hearts of Oak’s 2-0 defeat to archrivals Asante Kotoko in the 31st week of the league. He suggested that the club’s three main components – coaching, playing body, and infrastructure – should be scrutinized.

“Every team consists of three components coaching, playing body, and infrastructure. Since Hearts of Oak is succeeding in its infrastructure, the other two should be examined that is coaching and player recruitment,” he told Akoma FM.

“Making slight adjustments to the coach may not necessary get the desired results, but it is important to note that acquiring talented players from nearby clubs may not always be the best option because they might not be suited for a team like Accra Hearts of Oak.

“If the problem of finding players before hiring a coach has proven problematic for us over the years, we should examine it and if it hasn’t worked in the past few years, then I expect we do something different,”
