2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers: Group I standings after wins for Ghana, Madagascar

Group I in the African qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup has opened up after results in Round 3.

The Black Stars of Ghana influenced the situation in the group with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Mali in Bamako.

In that game, the hosts scored and led at halftime but could not defend to secure all three points.

Goals from Ernest Nuamah and Jordan Ayew inspired the Black Stars to a much-needed 2-1 win at full-time.

In the other games played in Round 3 this week, Central African Republic defeated Chad to enhance their chances of qualification to the next mundial.

Today, the last game in Group I for the third round between Madagascar and Comoros opened up the group even more.

Madagascar after beating Comoros 2-1 now occupies the second position in the group with six points.

Madagascar and Ghana in first and second also have six points respectively.

Meanwhile, Mali and the Central African Republic also are on four points each.

Chad after failing to win any of the first three matches in the qualifies sits bottom of the table.
