Man Utd and Bayern Munich learn asking price of Manuel Ugarte

Paris Saint-Germain are open to parting ways with midfielder Manuel Ugarte, who is attracting interest from Manchester United and Bayern Munich, but want to recover the €60m fee they splashed out 12 months ago.

The Ligue 1 giants triggered Ugarte’s €60m (£51m) release clause to win the race for his signature last summer, but the 23-year-old endured a challenging debut year in France which saw him start 21 times in Ligue 1.

Sources have confirmed to 90min that PSG are actively talking to suitors for Ugarte, in the hope that a sale can fund a move for another midfielder.

PSG are, however, in no rush to sell and are not prepared to compromise their valuation of Ugarte. Club sources have told 90min that a verbal offer from Manchester United worth around €35m was received and immediately rejected, though United sources deny they have made any formal proposal.

Bayern Munich are another suitor for Ugarte, who spent two years with Sporting after joining from Famalicao, and the defensive midfielder also has interest from clubs in Italy and one unnamed Premier League team.

United are expected to be in the market for a new defensive midfielder this summer as they hope to cut ties with Casemiro, who endured a treacherous end to the 2023/24 campaign covering the club’s centre-back injury crisis.

The veteran Brazilian, who still has two years left to run on his expensive contract, is a target for clubs in Saudi Arabia and United will listen to offers as they seek to build up their transfer budget for Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s first window in charge.

Sofyan Amrabat has also departed United after the Red Devils declined to trigger the purchase clause in his loan from Fiorentina, further strengthening United’s desire to strengthen in midfield.

Erik ten Hag still has Kobbie Mainoo, Scott McTominay, Christian Eriksen and the versatile Mason Mount as his midfield options alongside Casemiro, and needs United’s transfer budget to stretch to new defensive and forward reinforcements.
